Buy Fresh Buy Local Holiday Guide Available

(Warrenton, VA - November 10, 2008) Continuing its strong commitment to the local foods movement and farmers, the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) has published a Buy Fresh Buy Local Holiday Guide to help Northern Piedmont area residents support our farms as part of their holiday shopping.

The Guide lists local farms and producers in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties where Christmas trees and decorations can be purchased. Furthermore, meat, poultry, dairy, produce and specialty food producers are listed in the Guide. The Guide can be found at Marshall IGA, the Natural Marketplace (Warrenton), PEC offices in Warrenton and on the Buy Fresh Buy Local Virginia website.

Fruits and vegetables shipped from distant states and countries can spend as many as seven to fourteen days in transit before they arrive in the supermarket. This results in little variety in the plants grown.
